FOUR PAWS DOG RETREAT
About Four Paws Dog Boarding
Trusted Care for Your Pooch
I am owner of Four Paws Dog Retreat. I have had a passion for dogs from a very early age, but out of college I followed my computer science degree and took a job with a major international software company. However I left my first career to stay home with and raise my children, so when it was time to rejoin the workforce 17 years later, I knew I wanted something different than before. My love for dogs led me to Four Paws, where I quickly moved into the General Manager position. In GM capacity, I grew the business exponentially, doubling the daycare business and increasing the boarding business year round. When the opportunity arose, I was able to purchase the business from its original owners, fulfilling my dream of business ownership!

I am originally from Toledo, Ohio (Frog Town USA). My husband and I moved down here to escape the arctic weather and fell in love with the city of Charlotte and all it has to offer. Before working at Four Paws Dog Retreat, I was in the hotel management at a pet friendly chain. I enjoyed checking the dogs in more than the people. This is where my love for dogs began. As a child, I always wanted a dog but was never given the chance. My husband and I got our first fur baby, a Goldendoodle named Onyx, in 2013, and in 2014 I was blessed to be offered the job here at Four Paws. I love coming to work, I feel truly lucky every day! In 2017, Olivia (my daughter) arrived and she enjoys coming to “mommy’s work” too for visits. Genuinely I love this place, the dog’s, the clients, absolutely everything! Couldn’t be more thankful!!

I’m from Harrisburg, NC. After high school I joined the army in 2010 and served until 2014. After I got out, I was looking for a career, and that’s when I found Four Paws. I love being able to do something I enjoy and take pride in it. My hobby is disc golf I play every chance I get!
I've been working with Four Paws Dog Retreat for 11 years. During this time, I have enjoyed caring for your furry babies and learning all their unique personalities. I am happy to be part of the Four Paws Family as we have the most loyal clients and the best canines I have ever worked with.
My family relocated from New Jersey to South Carolina in 1997. I've worked in retail mostly but wasn't completely satisfied. I have always had a solid background in Customer service and worked in retail many years. Though I enjoyed the interaction with the customers, I felt that something was missing. I began working with German Shepherd Dogs while I studied Shutzhund training. After four years of working in this environment, my path was changed when the business was sold and the new owners made the decision to take the training in a new direction. It was then that I found Club K-9, the original name of Four Paws. It is with pride that I can say that I have been with Four Paws Dog Retreat for thirteen years. During that time, I have forged many strong relationships with the clients and their dogs. Four Paws Dog Retreat is a second home for me. I could not imagine working anywhere else!
I’m originally from Danville, Illinois and moved south in 1984. Since then it’s been my home. I’ve worked in various industries since the age of fourteen. Retail. Customer Service. Government. Fourteen years as an on air personality in Charlotte radio. I have also served as a Party Disc Jockey since 1990 for events both personal and corporate. I needed something different in my life as far as a professional path, but I also wanted it to be something that mattered to me personally. Being a lifelong pet lover, while dogs had always been in my life, I had not worked with them. Here, I have found mutual appreciation and happiness. Some of my most fun days in the yard with the dogs is when we will have “Super 80s Music Doggie Party”. I have been with Four Paws since August of 2015 and look forward to many more years there. The honor of knowing that loving pet owners are entrusting you to be a part of their dogs’ lives is what makes it worthwhile and rewarding.
I am from Fort Mill SC but currently live in Chester. I have been with Four Paws for 3 years. Dogs are my passion!
I was born in Orlando and spent the first 34 years of life living there and other surrounding areas. Upon moving to Charlotte in late 2014 I started my adventure working with dogs at a facility in the Uptown area. What brought me to 4pdr was being gifted the chance to adopt a 6 year old female Boxer from a client. Upon my first visit to 4pdr I saw something special and wanted to be part of it. I made the necessary maneuvers for a job change and started my life at 4 Paws in June of 2016.
I’m 19 years old and Leslie’s daughter. We have four dogs of our own so it was natural for me to want to work with puppies and dogs of all sizes. After I graduated from high school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study in college, so I decided to work instead until I sorted it out. I had worked part time at Four Paws off and on in the past, so it made sense to find work there full time.

I’m from Rock Hill, SC. My puppy Smokie brought me to 4 paws as he came here to board. I’ve been at 4 paws for 3 years.
I have been with Four Paws Dog Retreat for 2 years. I am a Native Texan but call North Carolina my home now. I have been an animal lover since I was a kid and have worked in animal care for over 20 years. My original background is in animal medicine but, I found myself wanting to spend more time with dogs. I started doing work with animal rescue and fell in love with animal care, that’s what brought me to Four Paws. I have 2 huskies, Khaleesi (named after the character in Game of Thrones one of my favorite shows) who just turned 3, and Elway (named after John Elway, old school Broncos QB the nicest football player I have ever met) who is 17 years old yes 17. I have a special love for our older dogs at Four Paws because of him. What can I say I live the “dog life” and I love it!!
After living my dream in New York City, I decided it was time to come back to my Southern roots. I was blessed to have a job to come to at Four Paws. I have always loved dogs and had several black labs of my own. I was in the procurement field for over 20 years, which requires a strong, confident and demanding nature. These same traits are what I’ve brought to Four Paws. I love that they all have their unique personalities, and they are a joy to be around. After I have my days off, I’m always so happy to get back to the dogs. I love my job. I’ve been at Four Paws almost 2 years now, and they have been some of the most enjoyable years of my life.
I've been working at Four Paws Dog Retreat since March 2018. I was born and raised in Charlotte. I grew up riding horses, and have always loved animals. My pup attended daycare at Four Paws before I started working here. He told me it was fun and I should tag along, and that's what brought me to this great place!!
I'm from Illinois. I previously worked at a veterinary hospital. I moved to NC al- most two years ago with my wife and 13 year old Shih tzu, Max. I came across Four Paws online and it looked like a great place. I've happily worked here for a year.
I've been here at 4 paws for about a year now and I still can't carry on a conversation outside of work without bringing up the furbabies. I started out here as just the cleaner but soon got the privilege of interacting with the four leggers a whole lot more. My partner and I have five of our own, so I definitely understand how amazing these fur- babies are. I know it's supposed to be a job but it's more than just that. It's actually fulfilling coming to work to see so many wagging tails and excited faces.
Daycare Attendant/Facility Cleaner
I am 26 years old and I am from Concord, NC. I now live in Charlotte and have been here since I was 18. I studied photography at the Art Institute of Charlotte, and I am also a certified vet assistant. I thoroughly enjoy working with animals of all kinds. I wanted to take a step back from the vet environment to be more involved in the lives of dogs and making their days fun when they are away from their homes. I found Four Paws when I was looking for a daycare for my dog Khloe when she was a puppy. I look forward to meeting your pup!
Hi my name is Essy I’ve lived here in Charlotte for 6 years now! I have a golden retriever fur baby named Emmy who loves good belly rubs and a good snuggle. I am currently studying special education at UNCC. I look forward to caring for your pups!
My family and I are from a little bit of everywhere, but I grew up in a small town in Kansas! We are a Military family that have been stationed in Charlotte for the past 5 years and we now are happy to call Clover, SC home! After being a stay at home mom, for the past 12 years, I decided to go back to work with the Humane Society and I am now excited to work for Four Paws, which I absolutely love being able to work with all the great dogs! My Husband, Michael and I have been happily married for fifteen years and have two daughters (Madeline 13 and Mikayla 12), two dogs (Buddy and Betsy), two cats (Keebler and Princess Zelda) and one Bearded dragon (Sally).
My name is Janelle Dougherty, I relocated to South Carolina about 3 years ago from the DC area to be closer to my family. I have always had a strong passion for all animals but the strongest for dogs ever sense I can remember. I have lived all over, originally from Ohio yes, I’m a yankee but with some southern charm. My Dutch Shepard (Toby) I rescued just over a month or so ago and he loves it at four paws just as much as I do! I look forward to meeting your dog and making is an awesome home away from home.
My name is Gabrielle, I’m from Myrtle Beach, SC and always been an animal lover since a young child. When I relocated to Charlotte, I was looking for a job and found Four Paws. Four Paws has brought so much light to my life because my job involves my passions. I’m able to bring my dogs to work with me, meet new fur babies everyday and build a bond with them! Every morning I am happy to go to work and see all those happy faces and wagging tails!
